Our United Methodist Women returned from Leesburg stomping their feet and rocking to the music of Maureen Still and encouraged the rest of the church to join them at the Maureen Still concert at First United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches.

Maureen gave an awesome performance.  She closed with a song requested by the women who attended Leesburg.  The song, "The Vine" was written by Maureen for the 2007 Leesburg Women's Retreat.

The Last Supper is commonly understood to have been a Passover meal.  Come and see what the Passover is all about -- eating the symbolic foods, joining in Hebrew prayers, experiencing what Jesus experienced with his disciples and what Jews today experience when they celebrate the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt.  See Pastor Bob in a yarmulke and prayer shawl!  6:30 - 7:30 p.m., April 1.

We knew it had to come sooner or later. After all, we're Methodists, and our pastors get moved. We will have a new pastor, Stuart Bodin, on July 15.

Pastor Bob has promised he will continue his meditations, setting up his own website to receive his "old" meditations and to hold back meditations to 2003. Watch this space for more news!

Join with Miami Lakes UMC as we read the Passion story, celebrate Communion and reflect on the suffering of Jesus.  7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2.

The overarching aim is to deepen discipleship through better understanding of the biblical texts and their message.  The study helps group members understand that Jesus is rooted in Judaism and the Scriptures of Judaism, and that Christianity and the New Testament are rooted in the Scriptures of Judaism—our Old Testament.

The Study Manual guides daily study and preparation for the weekly group meeting. The main elements in the format are designated by scriptural phrases:

• “They have no wine” (John 2:3) is a brief statement about the human condition and alerts the reader to some aspect of daily life that Scripture can shed light on.
• “Beginning with Moses and all the prophets” (Luke 24:27) is a way of referring to Scripture as a whole and signals the fact that we can understand Jesus in the Gospels better by understanding the Old Testament better. 
• “Do you want to become his disciples, too?” (John 9:27, New International Version) is designed to stimulate thoughtful reflection so readers can come to their own conclusions about what their own discipleship calls for.

Accompanying each day’s Scripture reading assignments are suggestions of things to look for that take the reader deeper into Scripture. As readers become aware of detail in Scripture, they might ask themselves repeatedly, What am I to make of this? The study manual provides space for writing notes on insights, observations, and questions related to the Scripture, and for putting into words personal perceptions of Jesus from the week’s Scripture.

In addition to the core Bible readings and the excellent DVDs and study manual, participants in Disciple II have an opportunity to sharpen their Bible skills by using a Resource Library of commentaries and supplemental materials, to bring additional insights into the weekly studies.  Not every person in the group will have a special assignment every week, but those who do will report on the assignment in the next weekly group meeting.

Cornerstone Family Ministries has discontinued SHARE throughout Florida.  They informed us in early December that there will be no more food orders, and our December pick-up will be the end.
